Just because you see something on television, doesn't mean that it holds much validity in the real world. Don't ever assume that a career is going to be like it is in a made-up show. If this were the case, I would have probably become a cop long ago. Probably the best way to learn about becoming an emergency medical technician or any other medical or rescue work, is by doing a job shadow of some sort. Spend a day with one of these people and see if the reality is truly what you're looking for.
