AUTOMOTIVE OIL FILTERS

For most of us, we don’t give much thought to our car’s engine oil unless it’s time to replace it. When that happens we usually take it in to a mechanic so he or she can do the job for us. We end up paying for the labor, the oil and something called the oil filter. Most people have no idea what automotive oil filters really are, but they know that they are needed in order to prevent damage to a car’s inner workings.

They are used to keep the impurities out of the engine while it is running. This is done as the oil suspends the numerous engine parts that are used in the combustion of gas, air, and the spark that is created by the spark plugs. The explosion causes the pistons to move and for the waste of the process to be expelled out through the exhaust pipe. This is a process that creates a level of impurities from the air that comes in and also the fuel. The dirty oil is run through the particular automotive oil filters that are for the vehicle and the larger waste is trapped helping insure that the garbage doesn’t cause damage to the engine or its parts.

Most of them are cheap and are even cheaper when one thinks of the cost it would be to replace or rebuild a damaged engine. Each time that the oil is changed so is the automotive oil filters that are within the vehicles that go through this process. This is a must as the automotive oil filters become filled with the waste that builds up in the oil through the combustion process. This is something that makes the oil servicing so important in ensuring the long levity of an engine. The impurities that build up take away from the performance of the car and can cause damage that is common with the rings, the cylinders, and also the valves.

With replacement, the oil is also drained out of the vehicle and fresh oil is replaced into the engine. This help make the automotive oil filters last longer and it helps get rid of the grit that builds up in the oil even when the oil filter has done its job. Automotive oil filters can only clear out the larger elements and there is still a lot of grit that remains and can cause unneeded friction within the engine. This can cause the gaskets to break that seal the two halves of the engine together.

It’s easy to see why you need to take your car in for maintenance including an oil change from time to time. After all, the small cost you pay for the oil and automotive oil filters pales in comparison to the price you’d be paying for a new engine.
