VINTAGE SHOESHave you ever stopped to consider the vast differences in people? Most people have two legs, two arms, a body and a head. That is where our similarities stop. Each person has their own unique facial features, hair texture, skin tone and body build. Most of all each person has their own tastes in clothing, hair style and accessorizing, which adds to our uniqueness. Having others be different than us can be troubling for some people, yet at the same time people want to be recognized for their differences.
I have two daughters. Both of them are attractive women that take care of themselves and like to dress well. At that point the similarities stop. My oldest daughter has a degree in business. She works in the corporate world and dresses in conservative business attire. My younger daughter is an artist. She teaches art at the university level as well as painting and sculpting. Her art shows are doing very well and she is making a great income. She loves to wear outfits that she creates from a wide variety of fashion pieces and she only wears vintage shoes. This drives her older sister crazy.
My daughter’s love of vintage shoes started when she was a young girl. When she was twelve years old her grandmother moved from her home into a senior apartment. When we were helping to clean out the house we found boxes of old clothes as well as vintage shoes. My oldest daughter thought we should throw away the shoes, but my youngest daughter begged to be able to wear them to school. Their grandmother had been involved in many social functions as a young woman. She had beautiful evening clothes and the vintage shoes to match them. She had trunks filled with the clothes that she had kept through the years. My youngest daughter tried on clothes and shoes for hours. She insisted that the trunks be moves to our home instead of donating the things to charity. Through the years she has used many of the clothes that her grandmother saved. At her first prom she altered a dress that her grandmother had worn to a wedding. She completed the outfit by wearing the vintage shoes that had been dyed to match the color of the dress. Her outfits are always unique, but also in good taste. She said she loves knowing that when she walks into a room no one will have on the same outfit that she does. She has not found the person that she wants to marry, but she does have her bridal dress. She is wearing her grandmothers, along with satin vintage shoes. She is lucky that she and her grandmother wear the same size.
