TIRE PRESSURETire Pressure
Though I drive a car, you could not call me an expert on them by any means. If something goes wrong, I have to race off to find my cousin. He’s a mechanic, and I know he’s a good one. There are little things about cars that I have learned along the way, and those things have come through experience. I know how to change a tire, and I also know the importance of having the proper tire pressure in each of your tires. If even one is low, you can have bigger problems than you may realize.
Though I didn’t have a car in college, one of my roommates did. It was the only one within our circle of friends, and we went everywhere in it. Luckily for her, and for us, her parents supplied her with a gas card and paid for her insurance. So we could go anywhere we wanted, within reason, and it usually didn’t cost us very much. On one particular trip, the tire pressure was low, but we had no idea what was going on. My friend didn’t know much about cars either, and she had no knowledge that may have warned her that her tire pressure was too low.
It wasn’t in all of the tires though. The tire pressure was fine in three of the tires, but one was getting very low. It must have had a slow leak, but we didn’t know it at the time. All we knew was that it was getting harder and harder to steer, though that didn’t seem to stop us from driving it. As the tire pressure got lower and lower, it became almost impossible to go over thirty miles an hour safely. One friend get stranded and had no way home. We had to go get her.
As we drove down the highway with low tire pressure, the steer was almost impossible to handle. We were going so slow we thought we were going to get pulled over. We were right. We were pulled over and a police officer took about two minutes to tell us what the problem was. It was just the tire pressure, and all we had to do was fill the tire and it drove fine. We all laugh about it now, but honestly, it’s one of my blonder moments in life. I check the pressure on my car often now so the same problem won’t arise.
