NESTING TABLE

My daughter and her husband have recently moved into a small home that they are renting. They are renting while her husband finishes his law degree. They do not know where they will live once he graduates, it will depend upon where he finds a job. In the mean time they did not like being confined to an apartment so they are renting a small house with a yard for their dog to run in.

My daughter and her husband love to entertain. The house they are renting has a nice size kitchen and dining room area, but the living room space is quite small. She asked me to come over and look at the space and then to go shopping with her for accessories for the room that would utilize the space is the most efficient way possible. The living room has a bay window with a window seat area, which adds to the seating area with out taking up floor space. On either side of the window seat are spaces three feet wide. When they moved in the owner of the home had an extended curtain rod with long drapes that extended to the floor. The drapes made the window look larger; however they also look up the wall space. I suggested to my daughter that we take the drapes and curtain rod down and find a different curtain for the area. The drape was never drawn anyway. Once we removed the heavy fabric the room appeared much larger. Not having the fabric hanging next to the bench created two areas where my daughter could place a nesting table.

When I mentioned this to her and her husband, he looked at me with a blank expression on his face. He had no idea what a nesting table was. I explained to him that the nesting table is a set of two or three tables that match each other. Each is a bit smaller than the other so you can place one on top of the other. When you need additional surface space, for example for guests to set a glass on, you can take out the smaller tables to use. When you did not need the surface space the tables fit together and do not take up storage space. I have a glass nesting table in our family room. It is nice to be able to pull out the extra table space when needed and they are so easy to return them when they are no longer in use.

My daughter and I went to a furniture store and found a set of glass as well as a wooden nesting table set. The wood did not match the other furniture they have in the room so we chose the glass set. The nesting table made a nice addition to the room, but the biggest difference was removing the heavy drapes.
